The book of the Bible we will examine together is the First Epistle of John. It was generally believed that this letter was written around the end of 1st century to the beginning of the 2nd century. If we agree with this date, this letter was written at least several decades after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension. This means that almost all disciples who witnessed Jesus directly already passed away in the life of the early churches. However, the author of this letter describes Jesus in this way from the very beginning of it: We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands.” It shows how vividly they encounter with God and have a fellowship with Jesus. Their intimate relationship with Jesus leads us to look at our spiritual journey and ask ourselves: What kind of God do we believe now? Is our God the living one as they experienced? How can we have this intimate fellowship with Jesus? This worship service is designed to reflect on “living God” who is active in our lives.
