Sunday, February 9th: Love Never Ends: The First Fruits
The Bible teaches that we are to offer the first fruits of the harvest and the first fruits of the flocks to God. This is the best of what we can produce, the best of the labor of our hands and the sweat of our brows. In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul’s uses this phrase to state that Jesus is the best that humanity has to offer to God. But Paul isn’t using the phrase as a means of setting Jesus apart from us. Rather, he presents the death of Jesus as an example for us and a promise for us as well. We, too, are called to live sacrificially. We, too, are invited to live this “more excellent way,” as Paul describes in Chapter 13. More than that, Jesus’ example is not just for this life, but for eternity!
